My son cut down a sick birch tree in his yard in November. The last time we visited I sawed a section off the stump. This week, I finally split the section and carved a spoon out of one piece. I am doing my rough shaping with a draw knife, rather than a hatchet, now. It is easier on my arthritic hands. The picture of the finished spoon is taken with two other pieces of the same chunk of birch. The knife on the right is one I made from an old file last summer. It is useful in shaping the outside of the spoon. I use a Flexcut spoon knife to hollow the bowl.

Good looking spoon. I like the lines.
-- I just got done cutting three boards and all four of them were too short. (true story)
