Project Information

My MIL saw the bamboo chests I made for the granddaughters and asked if I could do one for her to use between two chairs. She also asked for different woods. Top, drawer bodies, and "case" are Jatoba. Drawer fronts are some unusual Arkansas Black Cherry I sawed. Dimensions are 2'x2' x 20" tall. Finish is rubbed on shellac. I'll try to add some close ups of the drawer fronts as I really liked that black cherry board! Thanks to Benji Reyes for the inspiration for this design.

I think that this piece will look nicer when the Jatoba and the Black Cherry age/darken some. Hope this is what she wants as she is a special lady!

Very nice indeed. Am I correct in seeing that the drawers are sliding on the side frames or are there slides there?

Well done Andy. Turned out great. I'm confused on the Black Cherry….you just got your sawmill this fall right? Or were you using the bandsaw prior to that? Either way, it looks good. Great gift.

Jeff, Sawed this on my bandsaw a couple of summers ago. Only had one board and it didn't really "go" with anything so it hid in the shop attic until this project came along.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. It's been tough around here so the encouragement is much appreciated.

How many ways can one say how nice this is?
Someone who knows nothing about woodworking would call it 'neat, nice or pretty' and they'd be right.
Someone with bit of experience would say 'wow, how'd he do that?'
Someone with more experience would just say 'damn' .

I like it a lot.
