A Christmas present for her. Not terribly exciting but my first attempt at putting in keys in the mitered corners.
Cherry and maple. It is about six inches square and high. I did a trick I saw on YouTube by laying down the sides face up and flat and then taping all the joints together, turning it over, applying glue to the joints and bending it all together as the tape holds it and then gluing and taping the last joint. No clamps were involved in the making of this box. It worked to my amazement. I put some linseed oil on it and then paste wax several coats. A little disappointed that the Cherry didn’t come out more colorful. I need to work on that finish part.
Felt on the inside comes later. Thanks for looking.

Nice! I like the different sized keys. I (and now you) have learned to test the finish on scraps to see what it’s going to look like. And even though you didn’t use any clamps, don’t think that means you have enough!

It looks great. The cherry should darken naturally with age.
