This box is made with a very interesting piece of birdseye maple with lots of inclusions. The lid is made with wenge that is at least 60 years old. It was so old that it was a light brown from all the dirt and dust and oxidation that the the years piled on to it. Anyhow.. I tried a new shaping style on the sides of this one. Tried a very simple flowing curve with a single switch in direction on each face, and continued each line around the corners. Turned out pretty slick.

The box is hinged with Kerf hinges, and finished with three coats of bug bomb lacquer, waxed and buffed. It is 8×10x4ish. The liner is from a fabric sampler pack.

Very nice. I love grinding on Wenge. It always offers up unknown treasures inside each piece.

That’s absurdly beautiful. The character in the wood itself, along with your sculpting, reminds me of images of Earth from space. Mountains and rivers.

Look what you’ve done. I’m waxing poetic all of a sudden.

Bill, nice job. I like your new sculpting technique.

Try this chain= from Lowe’s. I think you’d like it. It is a #5 clock chain.

You find some of the most beautiful types of wood for your boxes and then you have a knack for bringing out all their character.
