We have a small house, so finding nice wood furniture that fits is hard. Thankfully over the last couple of years I’ve taken up woodworking, so now I can fill in the empty spaces with my wife’s requests. Here’s a small cherry table. This was challenging because the wood came from four different sources ranging in color from dark to very light. So with advice from LJ finishing forum, I pretreated everything with General Finish satin poly, and then blended the color of the boards with GF candlelight gel stain. Differing the number of coats on different boards brought it all together. GF Arm-R-Seal finishes it off. Yes, GF made some money off of me. Normally, I don’t like to stain cherry, but never say never.

I know what you mean. You look at the wood and wonder why you’d want to colour that but this is a great example of why. Perfect job, well done.

Thanks Charles. Your suggestion made the difference! Good thing I had both the GF Satin and Arm-R-Seal on hand.

Beautiful table, designed and made for a specific spot, and it looks great.

Very nice and elegant table. I like the taper at the very bottom of the legs.
