My wife and I got some prints at the East Lansing Art Festival by an artist named Andy Van Schyndle. I didn’t just want to buy frames for them, so I decided to make some out of walnut and maple that I had lying around. I used boiled linseed oil to finish the wood. I love the way that “drying oils” like linseed and tung give an almost 3-D glow to the wood.
This is the first frame of three, for the three prints we bought. This print is called “Gateway.” The other two frames are yet to be made. I want to make them similarly out of walnut and maple, with a kind of arts and crafts sense, but each unique in design. I modeled the frame in Sketchup, first, around a screenshot of the print.
Thanks for looking! Sorry for all the reflection off the glass in the pictures.

Always nice to see people thinking outside the box or in this case outside the print.
Looking forward to seeing the next two frames….....................

Cool frames! Can’t wait to see what the other two look like.
