For years I have been looking at wood carving. After inheriting some of my uncles carving tools I left stored away for many years and not having much of an interest to explore this style of woodworking. Finally I started to see what I could do and now I’m hooked.
Some of my previous post show some of the carvings I had done for Christmas gifts. After being complimented of my hand carving ability, it was suggested to see what type of response I would get from the public. My wife Karen suggested that I setup for a local Christmas show that is scheduled for December 7th. Yes that is this Saturday. Since I had entered my $40 dollar entry fee in October I was on a mission to have as many as I could get together. The picture you see is what I have accomplished so far. Both pictures are the same carvings. They are just a before and after view, because I darkened to make it look like a “Primitive Look” Most are Santa’s, but some are snowmen. I also have some small ornaments and some candy canes. Anyway everything I have deals with the Christmas holiday. For some of “MY Buddies” who may live in my area, I will be at the “Madison Handmade Market” on Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm. Location is where the old Star Store was located on the corner of Vernon St and Maiin Street in downtown Madison, Indiana

Here is the results:
I wanted to update all my fellow woodworkers who was wanting to know how the Christmas show went this weekend. Even though we had inches of snow and low temps the show was a success. Maybe the snow got people in the mood, but to say that all but a couple of the carvings were sold. I was very pleased as you can imagine. I felt like my prices were well worth my efforts. I have been contacted by more request. Might need to take a brief break first.

Thanks again for all the compliments…

I like the “after” ones. The darkening makes them look great. With the pure white I’m just reminded of the mass-produced stuff you find in the christmas displays at the store. How long have you been carving now?

Hey “Just Joe” I have been carving serious about a year. Off and on for maybe 3 years. My biggest learning curve with my carving was learning out to sharpen my tools. After many You Tube video’s I think i have it down.

to all people who commented…Thanks to all for your comments and support for this event. I’ll post my show results on Sunday.
