Lumber Jocks,

My wife and I wanted a mud room for the entry from the garage. I said I would make one if she painted it. I was sure that I was safe. Apparently not. She really wanted the mud room and we had a good time making it.

We collaborated on the design. Originally we were going to move a few walls. However, any option we considered, was cost prohibitive or would make sacrifices we were not willing to make. We decided on using the wide hall way to make a built in that was shallow at 14” deep. That would still allow 38” for the hallway. Also, we decided that the corners needed to be rounded so that people would be less likely to kick the bench coming from either direction. My wife also likes wainscoting so we added that for the back.

We completed this in about two weekends. It was less work that I imagined and more than my wife thought it would be. Anyway, we had a few good laughs through the whole process.

Excellent use of space. My wife and I make similar deals, although she never ends up actually holding up her end. You need to show me this trick.
