These two new toys came from me not leaving well enough alone. :) I was trying to figure out how to do wheel wells on a stock car that weren’t small glued on pieces. To make it look right i ended up making our normally 3/4 in thick car body then took some 1/4 in. stock and cut out the same shape but this time with the wheel wells to clear the tires. the Indy car was just another “lets see if I can” project and I’m happy with how it came out. The Stock car prototype is made of 5 layers of 1/4 in thick birch hobby plywood but the production pieces will be all poplar (3/4 in body with (2) 1/4 in sides) and the Indy car uses 3/4 for the main body 1/2 for the side pods and nose wing, and 1/4 in for the rear wing sides.

Really nice! Should be a real hit with the kids.

I did something like that before and just put the car on its side and clamped a waste block to the under carraige, and put it in the drill press with a forstner bit to cut out the wheel wells. It worked prettt good, but I wasn’t laminating like you are.

I like the indycar. Close to my heart :-)

like the design! I use a 35mm forstner bit and the wheels I have fit perfect. The cars are a great way to use up scrap. I really like the indy car.
