This is a simple bookcase I built to fit under the overhang at the end of our kitchen island. It is solid red oak. The shelves are let into the sides with sliding dovetails. The sub-top is half-blind dovetailed into the sides. The top is glued to the sub-top. The back is ship-lapped. It sits on top of a undercarriage with legs that lift the bottom skirt 1/8” off the floor to create a shadow line. The piece is stained to match the woodwork in the kitchen. I’m reasonably happy with the construction but I’m not a big fan of the finish (stain). This is a utility piece built at my wife’s request. She’s happy with it so all is good.

I like your “bookmatched” panel as well as the rest of the project : )

Simple design but looks really well crafted and sturdy. Like the pretty grains on the back and the stain. Great job!
Have your say...
