Fell in love with Steve Ramsay's design and lined up a Saturday to get it done. Stopped by Home Depot in the morning with the wife, but she rolled her eyes at the price of 3 sheets of 3/4 inch plywood. I had to agree, $150 for a rack to hold my other bits of plywood didn’t make much sense.

I came up with a work around. Instead of $45 sheets of plywood, i bought a few pine 1×4s and made a frame to glue and nail sheets of $8 1/8 inch hardboard to. A few dozen pocket screws later and we were in business. It only took me about 4 times the amount of time I had budgeted for the original design.

It might have taken a lot more effort to put it together, but it only cost about $60 + casters and it is really light while still feeling sturdy. If i had to do it again I think I would just save myself the time and spend the money on the fancy plywood.

Looks great. I plan on making this to get myself organized for my apartment woodworking!

Nice one Russ… I built one outta scrap 2×8’s. Took a while doing the resawing and panel glue ups but I have to say they sure are handy. Going the route you did would have saved me a few grey hairs and a lot of mumbling…Great build sir.

Great looking and functional build, like the look of pine and great that you were able to save money. Great job!

Have your say...
