Nice bird box. I have made boxes for various species and a local environmental group gave me an award for doing it. It’s good to watch the birds come and occupy the box each spring.

Try this site for other bird box plans: http://www.rspb.org.uk/

Nice nest box! I’m sure that both your step-mom and the birds will love it!

I have built numerous nest boxes over the years, sold a few, and given a few away to friends and family. It’s fun to watch the birds use them, and to see the little ones emerge, hopefully to return for years to come.

Birds are fun(ny) critters though. They can be fairly picky about thier homes. Check out these sites for valuable info about what species likes what type/size of nest box.

I have drawn plans for, and have built several ‘floor plans’ over the years. Let me know if you’d like copies.

A couple of things to remember when building nest boxes:

1) Always put in vent and drainage holes.

2) Make sure that the inside of the front (near the entry hole) is a rough surface. A smooth surface makes it hard for the little ones to climb out when it’s time.
