Here is a pine entertainment center I built for my parents. They have a 60” LED TV that is wall mounted directly above this unit.

The center unit is open faced and has a vertical slot in the back to allow wires to be routed to the equipment on other shelves or to the wall jacks I installed that go to the TV and the surround sound speakers. I wired the entire room to be completely concealed.

The two end cabinets have glass panel doors on them. The shelves in all of the units are adjustable with shelf pegs.

Pine! Often thought of as a red headed step child (I’m red headed) it is a wonderful, plentiful, and affordable wood! You have done a splendid job on this unit. I bet the folks were quite proud.

Beautiful craftsmanship, great looking cabinet.
How did you finish?, it looks really good.

Thanks guys. Although I wish all of my projects could be made from nice hardwoods, the pine is definitely affordable and I can get the wide boards already glued and planned at Lowes. I don’t yet have the full armament of tools at home necessary to glue up and plane my own wide panels. Oak or maple ply would have been my alternative, and possibly about the same cost as the wide pine, but I would have had to cover every exposed edge. Ultimately I went with pine and was able to build this for about the same price as a p.o.s. particle board entertainment center from most stores.

If I recall correctly, the finish is just Minwax Red Mahogany Poly-Stain. I don’t enjoy staining enough to play around with cool finished yet. I wish I could be done with every project as bare wood.
