I stole this idea from jjw5858 (Joe) and really screwed up in using walnut as the “keeper” on the box. I also did a cross instead of a dovetail because it was easier and I am lazy. The box itself is sycamore and measures 6 1/2×3 x 3 and is finished with Danish oil and wax. I am really P.O.’d at myself for not realizing how the Danish oil would darken both woods and WILL make another one tomorrow. It was quite nice looking before the oil went on….contrasted great. Anyway, my box was “machined” and as difficult as this was for me to figure out, my respect for Joe climbed another notch or two! I will give this to a friend of mine for his “tobacco” box. Thanks for the looks and comments.

Looks great to me as dark as it is. Good job.

You’re being too hard on yourself—your box looks great to me and I really like the color!
