When I live in an apartment I stored my stereo on a few planks of wood on milk crates. Didn’t fly in the house with the wife so I needed a quick solution. These boards were dark cherry veneered particle board desktops and cubicle walls that I salvaged from a bank that was being torn down. I figured out the proportions, cut the pieces so no particle board would be exposed and doweled them together carefully proceeding with a hand drill. I intended to use some sort of brackets in the corners to brace these, but it proved unnecessary. I only glued the feet and the felt on the bottom of the feet, in case I need flatten them for transport. They are crazy heavy, so they aren’t going anywhere.

This pales in comparison to the amazing things I see here and not a whole lot of working the wood, but I am still proud of them. It was fast, free, they work great, and I think they look good and I love the proportions. My wife wants doors added. I thought of mimicking a barrister type door with some textured Plexiglas, but I haven’t found anything I like anywhere close to a reasonable price. Any suggestions would be great, but I only have a 1/4” clear over the tallest records if I go with a sliding door.

This room looked so different before the kid’s toys.
