This is a folding boarding ladder I made to mount on the stern of our 26’ sailboat. It has hooks at the top so it can be detached and stowed aboard when the sailboat is on her mooring. The hardware is from a kit I found online. The wood is mahogany with three coats of Helmsman spar urethane. I was eager to get the ladder into service this year but will add another 3-6 coats of the spar urethane this winter. Since taking these pictures, I have added a hook and eye set to each side to keep the ladder in the closed position until we’re ready to deploy it. The steps line up when folded so it can be used as a short ladder to board the sailboat from a dinghy then folded down to be used as a long ladder to get into and out of the water.

The ladder is beautiful. Where did you get the online kit from? I’ve been looking at putting a ladder on my 22’ sailboat, and this may inspire me to build one.

It looks great and well crafted. Like the folding mechanism, wood and the finish. Great work!

Thanks! The hardware was purchased from but is also available elsewhere on the internet.
