I’ve been trying to go back and photograph and catalog all my older work. its encouraging to see the improvements, and a little embarrassing too. Some of the older projects were not nearly as good as i remember them to be :) I made this about 8 years ago.
This cabinet was my first Lyptus project. At the time the stuff was still fairly hard to find. Thankfully I live only 45 min from Steve Wall Lumber. Anyone who dose mail order wood buying knows they have amazing selection and prices. I found Lyptus a little bit of a challenge to work with, but the final product was well worth it.
Unfortunately, i did a less than adequate job filling the pours, so the finish is’t perfect. I used a brown mahogany die on it to darken it then sprayed on lacquer.
The top and drawer front have birds eye veneer on the on them with a store bought decorative banding around it.
It is all solid wood, with tongue and grove construction. After 8 yrs it is still rock solid.
Thanks for looking.
JD
PS. These pictures don’t show a pull on the drawer, it has one now. A “cove” type in hammered iron.
