I really like Benji Reyes work. I think “Reyes inspired” would be an understatement in this case as I was aiming as close as possible to his table “Alalay Pilipit”. Most of his pieces are (obviously) way beyond my skills, but this small table seemed like something I could try to imitate for our home. The original lines proved impossible to replicate (as well as the choice of materials…), but I like this one anyway. As always, after having built this I would now do some things differently (mostly around how I constructed the legs).
The top is khaya, around it there are a dozen or so ebony plugs, the supports are oak, legs cherry, and the upright (upwrong?) as well plates under the legs are walnut. All the raw materials are scraps or leftovers from other projects: The original artist Reyes uses reclaimed wood, so I think it is becoming that for my so-and-so imitation of the design, I can claim my materials to be “almost reclaimed”...

That is “way” cool. You can be proud of this one. Thanks for the great pics.

Well done, Reyes is way more talented than I am (the mans a genius) and I havent seen the table that inspired you to build this one, but I really like the one you have built. thanks for sharing

It’s beautiful and one of a kind! The plugs are nice accents and the finish really made the pretty grains pop. Great job!
