Here’s a recently finished ring box for my fiance and I this sunday.

Curly maple, African mahogany. Sculpted the sides with a hand plane, originally i was going to use a belt sander, but turns out my recent block plane from Don worked very well at this task. Drew my arc on the side and went to town! The finger recess was done with a file and sandpaper. I was surprised how easy it is to do tapers and profiles with a hand plane.

No i did not make the pillow, although i did offer, but my fiance accepted.

Finished with vintage maple dye, 2 coats of tung oil, 1 coat of wax.

Should have done the hinge BEFORE finish, but oh well. Live and learn.

Just noticed on the last picture It looks as thought the inset mahogany panel isn’t level, it is, must be the camera angle.

Very nicely done with beautiful grain display! Best wishes to you and your fiancĂ© this coming Sunday, may the Lord bless your union with many happy years. Also, if I may share the words of wisdom I received from my younger brother: “In marriage, Brother, you have to decide whether you want to be right or you want to be happy.” ;-)

Lovely box! It’s truly fitting to carry the honor of storing or bringing the wedding rings. Great job and best wishes to both of you!
