I made 8 of these chairs as gifts for friends and family (and two for us!) over this last winter, and I’m finally getting around to posting. Since I hadn’t made chairs before, I went online to get a plan and found a good one at I stuck with the plan, without modification except longer screws in a few places, and they came out nice and comfy. Good back height/angle and seat height, depth, width, etc….. Even for a tall crowd…

The second and third photos show the chairs for my brother and sister-in-law. My brother brews his own beer (super good!), so I made up his logo and had a friend who owns a sign company and CNC machine laser cut it in to the seat slat. He loved it!

Due to the very high costs and difficulty in finding clear cedar in our area, I used common 5/4 cedar decking boards and milled 4×4 cedar posts to 3×3 for the legs. The finish is 3 coats General Finish Outdoor penetrating oil

Nice looking A’chairs, Jeff. Everyone should have a set to relax in on a warm summer day. I like the “fan back” style and the look of the cedar. Thanks for sharing.

Great looking and comfy chairs! Like the design and build. I’m sure they’ll last long outdoors and get plenty of use. Great work!
