Project Information

My wife is a pretty good violin player and my son likes to watch her play. The only downside is he thinks he should be able to touch her very pricey violin….something you dont want a 2 year old to do. She asked me to "make something real fast" for him to play with. A few hours later, this is what I came up with. Its about 14" long, made of walnut, maple and wenge scraps with some rubber bands for strings.

I love this! Your son can play along and the expensive instrument doesn't get damaged. This is wonderful--it also reminds me of a toy guitar my dad made for me when I was little.

Next you'll be buying him a fiddle also. Start them young and watch them grow.

Great job Marcus. Get them into woodwork or music or both.

Excellent idea. The result looks very convincing. Is the core empty or full ?

The neck and the core are all one piece of maple and then I just planed down some walnut to 1/4", traced around the maple blank that I made and made it proud about 3/16", and sandwiched the walnut on the maple.

Wow that's great for a pretty fast project. Like the wood colors and the finish. I'm sure the little one can enjoy playing with it.
