This is the second bottle stopper my son made. We didn’t get a picture of the first one. Outside is padauk and middle is cherry. He’s turning out to be a good turner. I guess I’ll have to make some blanks for him to turn stoppers, ice cream and pizza cutter handles, pens, and whatever else he wants to make.

We have a cheap HF lathe. Bought it years ago to sand and stain spindles I bought. It sat in the barn for a few years befor I got it out to teach him how to turn a pen, and he got hooked…me too. I need to modify it so it works better for us but that shouldn’t be a problem. Making it smaller too, it’s 40” long. If I wanted to turn something that long I don’t trust this machine but for what we do it’ll be fine. I may write something up about it when I’m done modifying it.

That’s a nice looking stopper. Your son is fortunate to have a father who’s willing to spend the time necessary to pass along these skills, and you’re fortunate to have a son willing to spend time with you and learn. Congratulations to you both & thanks for sharing!
