When we saw the design for these boxes in Wood Magazine several years ago, my wife and I thought they would be great gifts for her mother and grandmother.

The first one is made from cherry and walnut. I had some 8/4 cherry with sapwood that I re-sawed to get two book-matched pieces that I glued up with walnut between them.

The second box is made from a nicely figured piece of makore for the top and some straight-grained makore for the sides.
