New here and also quite new to woodworking. Ive had many hobbies come and go but this one seems to keep me drawn in! Wife had an old box store bookshelf that looked like crap and only held half her books. Were from Texas so gotta have a rustic look. Made with simple box store pine 2X10s sanded and stained with Mini-wax Walnut. Finish was a Polyurethane Satin(not sure the brand). Still have alot more to learn but I think it turned out pretty good.

I’m not from Texas but even a guy from New Jersey can see that that says “TEXAS”. Great job, love the rustic look

I love this kind of piece mainly because it is the kind of thing that 30 years from now it will look completely different. Maybe painted a couple times and striped once or twice, maybe the kids own it or it was given to someone who needed it. But it is strong enough, simple enough, and functional that in the years to come it will build a story of its own.

Thanks for the reply guys. It has a little significance to it. The tin on the back is the old rusted tin off the house I grew up in. Going to be making another for my mother.

Your shelves came out really good looking. Like the rustic look, great stain and effective finish. Great work! I’m sure there will be more requests for it.
