Greene & Greene inspired Shoe Bench custom made for my favourite client.
Made from reclaimed Merbau with Jarrah plugs and finished with a dark Mahogany dye and shellac to match some of my daughter’s other furniture. Credit must go to the small, old tin I found in photo 5 that became the radius for all of the curves in the piece. I decided to adorn the stretchers with some shallow carving – pretty easy to define the edge with a craft knife then use a regular bench chisel to pare away material. The top is secured with carpenter’s buttons.
This bench is made to dimensions for a particular purpose. When she grows out of it the piece can be re-purposed as an end table or small coffee table – hoping to get many years use from it.
Thanks for all of the inspiration on this site.

Beautiful bench! Like the design and the finish, very well made. I am sure she’ll get plenty of use from it.
Have your say...
