Just finished my new/ first workbench from a set of Woodsmith’s plans. “Finished” is not the right word since I still need to add a vise… but it is useable now. Fir plywood top & pine base. Finished with 2 coats of BLO. The plans call for MDF but when I asked for it at the local lumber yard they looked at me as if I were from outer space. Same reaction when I asked for 2X8 fir boards.
I plan to cover the top with either hard board or some type of laminate since the plywood is extremely soft (it already has dings & gouges from the build). Any way it is super sturdy & heavy. Thanks for looking

Looks good and sturdy. I suggest using it for a bit before deciding on which or how big of vise to add. I put the Veritas twin screw on my WB, but don’t use it all that often. I think a twin screw vise is great if you are mainly a hand-tool WW’r, but other than that I think you could get by with something a bit smaller.

It’s a great looking bench! Vise or not, you have a really aswesome build, there. Nice work.

It looks like it’s a nice one. Put a couple of vises on it and it will serve you well.

Nice bench. I would leave the top as is. It is better to dent the bench than the project.
