My wife asked me to come up with a outdoor couch design that fits our style..
She handed me a photo of a mission style couch she liked.
While at a estate sale a lady was giving away a couch. I just wanted the nice cushions.
I took the photo my wife gave me and started designing the couch to the cushions.
I researched the best outdoor wood for furniture in Fine Wood Working and found White oak was rated very high.
So off the saw mill i went.
I had my fabulous mother in-law cover the cushions with a very nice all weather fabric.
I used glue rated for outdoor use on all the mortise and tenons.
I used Sikkens Cetol ( )
for a stain and sealer.
The couch my wife spotted in her magazine cost 2599.00 YIKES !

my lumber cost was 254.00, cushion fabric was 125.00 with senior discount. Sikkens stain was , 40.00 at home depot. ————— 419.00 total

Happy mothers day to my wife who lets me play in the shop and save us money…..

Have a pile of white oak myself. Think I will follow your lead and turn it into some outdoor stuff. Love the mission style. Your work is stellar.

That is a wonderful, first class couch. Your wife is lucky you’re so skilled.

What happened? Did you have a bad day? Forgot how to use a saw? I expect good projects from you.

And, of course, this is no exception. Your work always impresses, thanks for sharing. I was just kidding of course. I am just starting to feel half competent with a mortise and tenon joint that is tight. I have a project similar to this on my list and yours gave me an idea and something to shoot for. It’s a very nice piece and I’ve enjoyed looking at your other projects as well.
