This one made me remember why I like doing this. Lately I have been making work to sell, but this one is for my wife’s parents 50th anniversary and when I’m making one with someone in mind I have a lot more fun. I combined some different methods that I have used in some of the other pieces I’ve done. I cut the letters out for the names in the sun and then used epoxy mixed with some ebony dust to fill it in. I did some wood burning to give highlights to some areas and I got to use some wood I have never used before.
It is 18×24 and is up to an inch thick, it has 427 individual pieces. Wood used were: cortez, teak, aspen, blood wood, curly maple, palm, poplar, osage, lignum, cocobola, wenge, walnut, oak, brazilian rosewood, purple heart, cypress, babinga, bacote, yellow heart, spalted tamerin, blue pine, mahogany, ebony, cherry, zebra wood. It was framed with brick molding and finished in satin. No stains (besides frame) were used to achieve the colors.
Hope they like it.
Thanks for looking

Celebrating 50 years of life together is a rare thing these days. You have made something that is truly unique to commemorate this special occasion. I know they will love and cherish it. You are right, whenever I am making something for someone I care about it seems to come out a little better.

Wow – that is an awesome piece. And 50 years is a great achievement! My wife and I have only been married for 45 years (last January 6) – my in-laws made it to 60 years before Father-in-Law passed.
Spectacular Piece of Art!

Terrific work! Let’s see, I’ve been married for 10 years…that gives me 40 years to work on my version of this for my wife. Not enough time!
Truly, this is a great labor of love to honor your in-laws. Thank you for sharing it with us.
