My inspiration for this series of boxes is the beach, specifically the waves and sand dunes.
The contours invoke fond memories of nature and invite touching.
Double Chocolate came to mind after building this box.
The body and lid are of Brazilian Rosewood and the lid has an insert of Cocobolo Rosewood, I shaped it in a free form style like waves or perhaps frosting. The handle is Cocobolo with a little creamy white sap wood which adds a little light to the overall dark setting.
The divider is made up of walnut wrapped around a spalted maple cube, which sets on black velvet.
This is my first project using Brazilian Rosewood and I really like it. It smells similar to Cocobolo but not as pungent.
It is very heavy and hard, but carves nicely. It has a few worm holes here and there which must have been made by one tough worm!
Tell me what you think.
Andy
Update: This sold recently.

Very nice as always Andy. Think what I like most about this is the lack of contrast between the box wood and the medallion. Instead of highlighting contrast, it comes across as much more subtle and emphasizes the flow of the grain in the wood.
I’m a big fan of cocobolo – I love the unique colors and even the smell of it when it’s fresh cut.

Drawer dividers that aren’t perpindicular or horizontal the the box sides is a cool idea. I’ll have to incorporate that in future boxes. Thanks for the idea and nice work.

Excellent work on this box. The rosewood varieties work well together. The shaping worked out well, too.

Beautiful box. The two woods are gorgeous along with the sculpting. Chocolate cake for breakfast sounds like a good idea.
