Victorian spandrel

A Victorian spandrel to decorate the passageway between front hall and dining room. The design is original, inspired by an article in Victorian Homes magazine (Dec 2011 issue). The design is crafted for my wife who is a bird fancier as well as a fan of all things Victorian.

Lots of scroll work.

Also, I had my first try at creating half column turnings visible at the bottom of the 2 side moldings. (I bought the little spindles rather than turn them – that was not worth the trouble.)

Being 6’9” tall I don’t like this project one bit :)

Seriously? That is really amazing and spectacular. I respect the amount of work and effort that you put into it. Great job!

Nice design on the spandrel. Very unique to see birds of that detail on one. I have made lots of Victorian spandrels and that is defiantly unique. Nice job. I just finished a spandrel this week that I will be posting soon.

Thanks all.

For ohwoodeye, you’re right the clearance is only about 6’5”. As my grandma used to say, “duck, your old man’s a goose.”

For grosa, please let me know when you post – I’d love to see your spandrel designs.
