This was a simple project I made to hold my cell phone on my nightstand so that I could use it as an alarm clock. The wood was recycled from a shipping crate that my wife found in the trash outside of her office building. A man has found a good thing when he has a wife who is willing to bring home discarded wood out of the trash to him :)

The main joint was made using a Dowelmax I recently got. Very simple first project with it, but it seems like an awesome tool. Finish was general finishes brown mahogany gel stain followed up with a few coats of Arm R Seal and then waxed. So far it seems to fulfill it’s function very well.

Nice and dramatic grain. This small project looks just great. I think I’ll try to duplicate one!

God bless that woman! Mine usually threatens bodily injury, puncture wounds, and alimony when I bring home a stray slat. A real unicorn you’ve found in that one my friend. Great little project, sometimes the simplest ones are the best.
