The previous projects I made were created mostly by borrowing my Grandpas tools. I no longer have his tools at my disposal, and I would like to start leaning more techniques with hand tools.

I made this box to experiment with hand tools. The sides of the box are made form a piece of 2×4 resawn into 3 pieces. The top and bottom are form scrap 1×6’s.

This also is my first attempt of dovetails, and hand cut at that. I miss cut 1/2 of them the wrong way, and the other half chipped.

I also attempted my first inlay. The star is made out of a piece of 1/8 in plywood. To cut it out I scored the design and removed the material with a chisel.

The finish is a few coats of Danish Oil.

All in all the project was lots of fun to do, and now houses my bothers cards against humanity game.

Nice work. I appreciate that you are willing to experiment. I’ve successfully done dovetails probably twice, but don’t seem to have the patience to keep at them. 45 miters are quick and easy for me, HAHAHAHAHA. K, that wasn’t really that funny, but you get the point. Keep at your woodworking!
