I made a pair of these trays about 3 years ago for a client who wanted the letter F as a symbol for their last name inlaid in the bottom. The wood is cherry with walnut F and keys. The F is cut out of veneer and glued to the tray bottom. I then sprayed the trays with high gloss oil-based polyurethane. Last I poured a bar-top finish (over the veneer) on the bottoms to make a level and durable bottom. Note: I made this project in high school. Nice work and interesting way to do this. I wouldn’t have thought of that technique. Great job and thx for sharing.

Nice tray. Great idea on the veneer.
