I’ve always had a fascination with 3 dimensional stars. Not being able to find a computer program that would allow me to calculate the angles and cuts that I needed, I wrote my own. I also needed to build a jig that would keep my hands safe and hold down the small pieces to cut at the various compound angles that were necessary. With the program in hand and a jig built, I proceeded to build the above stars. If you’re interested, the program is available to download from my blog and the jig building and star making are covered in more detail there.

Great project! Just a couple of questions though: In your 3rd photo above, are both pieces glued back together along the long side opposite that cut? Looks to be an angle along the edges not being cut in that photo. What is that angle?

The photo is to show how things are cut using the jig. For details, take a look at the blog link listed in the narrative above. 3-D Star Blog Link

Hey Aggie,
What are the angles of the long and short cuts on each triangle that glue to another piece, and the angle of the 3rd medium length that does not glue to another piece?
Thanks!

I thought those short and long length, as well as the angles, would be standard, and wouldn’t change. That’s amazing you made your programs so people could make stars of variable length!
Great job!
