I wanted something to go with the deck in my back yard and this is what I came up with.

It’s all cedar finished with Penofin. The joints are splined. The 45 degree supports are mortised into the 4×4s. The center rafter is a half lap joint fastened with screws and the holes covered with wooden pegs. I made the top course of shingles on a jig in my shop. They are glued and micropinned together.

I wanted to make something I’d be proud to look at. I love extremely sturdy designs with only the necessary amount of wood.

Is the vertical piece of cedar actually a through tenon?! Is 007lab THAT crazy? Maybe. Maybe not.

That is very nice and penofin is great with cedar. To see such detail in a roof is true art, something all can see. That will last a long time too!

Wow! I like this, very sturdy and well built. Beautiful wood combined with great technique make this perfect for outdoor. Nice looking backyard too.
