Quite literally – this house is truly for the birds.
I am just finishing up with a total shop redesign and layout and I thought I would test out the new flow by doing a quick project before I get back into the bigger stuff.
What’s more fun than a birdhouse – and since I can’t do anything simple, I decided to give it some “character” by making a sort of “ski chalet” style, complete with a tiny porch and a chimney.
I used slats around the walls and the roof to be able to get the curves I wanted. I actually worried enough about keeping the birds dry that I put a layer of house-wrap under the slats on the roof sections! You can see it by looking into the entrance on Pic 3 I think. ;-) I also scored the inner front wall to make it easier for the young birds to get out when ready.
It’s made out of pine taken from a couple of palette slats.
No finish on this – the birds prefer it that way and so do I. Let it age naturally.
The thing is around 10 inches wide by 9 inches high and around 5 inches thick.
Quite cute – it’ll go out on the fence tomorrow.
Cheers,
-bob

Nice.
Funny how we build houses for birds who normally live in nests with no roofs. But I do it too.
Good looking build,

Steve,
That is really funny – I never thought about that! I will still make waterproof houses, but that is quite a funny revelation.
Cheers!

Wow. That is very nice. Hope the birds appreciate it as much. Post a photo of it in use at some point.
