The wife really loved the Olive Wood salt pot at Williams and Sonoma, but thought it was small in size. I told her in the store I could make her a bigger one for her birthday. We left and went over to the local Woodcraft and picked out a blank which I then went to work on and badly damaged the lid. So back to Woodcraft and I grabbed another blank, but I didn’t grab the same species though, this one is made from Mopani. I got it roughed out using a 1 1/4” dishing bit and bandsawed the shape. I am hoping that the bulge for the Brass Pivot Pin adds strength as I have seen several of these with the wall of the bowl blown out. It is finished with many coats Salad Bowl Finish. The wife is very happy to have her birthday gift….....finally (it’s about 8 months late).

Beautiful pot with the great wood and finish and pretty looks sturdy with your design.

The cooks love them.
Check my projects for a different design with a spoon on top and a magnet to hold it closed…I borrowed it from a magazine.
