I recently got really nice chisels (Veritas PMV11) from a friend so I needed a real mallet to start playing with them. Here is my first attempt. I got a little carried away and use what I had so I didn’t really check for dimensions and I ended up with Thor’s mallet! :D I’ll keep it; you can never have too much tools(!), but I need to start working on something smaller now.
Head is red oak, strip of black wallnut and handle is a ash. Head’s dimensions : 9×3 1/2×3. Overall length: 17’‘
So, any comments on the “right” size for a mallet are welcomed! :D
Thanks for checking!

Hehehe. Yeah, I uploaded the first 2 pictures and I realized that I needed one where I hold to make its title relevant! :D

Look at it this way, no need to hit the gym after swinging that all day! :-)
