Bathroom Magazine Rack – American Cherry. Undecided on how to finish. Thinking just a clear poly, keep it light and shiny ?

Very nice. Yep, clear poly is all I’d do. The cherry will darken up over time.

I generally go for a clear finish. I think it preserves the natural beauty of the wood. Satin or gloss is the question. I often use Danish or Tung or for low glosss finish also. Nice rack! Will it mount on the wall or sit on the counter?

Nice looking piece. I agree on finish. Keep it simple.

Mounts to the wall for easy access from the drivers seat. :)
Thanks guys – going to go with a clear finish.

Minwax cherry stain followed by dilute Zinsser Bullseye SealCoat (thinned with equal parts alcohol) then wipe on poly thinned with an equal part of mineral spirits. Apply finishing wax with 0000 steel wool and buff.

Maloof Poly/Oil mixture -available from Rockler or Highland Hardware. Takes several coats to build up a finish, but it really looks great on cherry. Easy to apply with a rag in a circular motion, wait about 10 minutes and wipe off the excess.

Have your say...
