I found such a Nutcracker in an advertising recently. This is the right Christmas gift, I thought, and started to built several pieces.
More information about how I made it, a SketchUp model and a Plan for download you can find here:

I like this a lot. Thanks for offering the plans. I may make one out of walnut (though it seems cannibalistic somehow).

Intuitive design and great functionality. I may have to make one of these for my mom so she won’t have to always use the hand held nutcrackers, less torque, less work. Thanks for putting your info up so we can see the process!

It is a good and simple design. Favorited now.
I am starting the list for Xmas gifts…. of 2013… nutcrackers, candle holders, cutting boards. As I just got back to my small shop, it will take a long while to make any and every finished piece…

Tranks a lot for all your comments. I have to say that the original design is not from me. I have seen this Nutcracker in an advertising. I just worked out the plan to build one myself.

Wonderful design. I’ve been looking to make a nut cracker bowl with 2 chambers. One for whole nut and one for the shells. Never thought of the moveable floor for the shell chamber. That is a fantastic feature.
