I just finished this coffee table (46Wide-21Deep-21Hiigh) as a gift for Janice, a family friend. She is the painter, & wanted a colonial country look. Before Janice painted the flowers I put on 1 coat of MINWAX Special Walnut followed by a hand rub coat of their Polyacrylic water based finish. She used acrylic based paints for the flowers and lightly sanded over the dried image with a fine grit paper to get an ‘antique’ like effect.

I coated all but the bottom of the inside with a wash coat of thinned-out latex paint, laid in thin cedar planking and added a couple more coats of the poly finish to the outside before adding some brass hardware.

Different – just sort of grew as I went along – My wife, our friend Janice and anyone else who came by added their vote as to what should be added next. Hope you guys enjoy!

Very cool! While I lack the painting talent, I still really like primitive furnishings with painted details like yours. Thanks for sharing this!

Very tastefully done. Nice looking piece.
