Hey Lumberjocks, the last couple of months i been back in my work shop just playing around. I been wanting to make a chess board for a while now. The last few weekend i been working on this chess board. I put inlay around the edges i have never inlayed before. I know that it is a art in itself. I put six coats of laquer on the board. It looks great the way it is, but i will let it dry for a week and rub out the finish. I am not sure yet but i might make a cabinet for it with drawers to put the chess pieces in it. Thanks for looking at it.

Monty, Nice Work!!
What woods did you use? Are you gonna make your own chess pieces?
I like it, you have some awesome talent.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks a lot for all the nice comments. The board is made out of walnut and maple. I want to make chess pieces but i am not sure i going to try to tackle that right now. Thats a lot of turning.

Gorgeous! Been wanting to tackle that for a while. Would love to see what you come up with for drawers or piece storage. I have a ceramic board and set I made years ago but have been trying to figure out what kind of box or table to build for it.

Great work. A chess board has been on my short list for way too long. My plan is walnut and ash just because that’s what I have a lot of on hand. The inlay is a pure touch of class.
