This one was really an excuse to play with some flocking powder I had found in the kids craft closet. Not sure what it was originally intended to be used for, but finders keepers. I decided to make a small box for the fountain pen pictured that is a gift for my Dad after a promotion. The pen’s been done a couple weeks, but we’re just now getting a chance to take the 2 hour drive to see them.

Anyways, not much in terms of creativity involved, but it was fun and somewhat hassle free. I used simple butt joints. The lid was routed to friction fit the box. The little cocobolo slivers on bottom weren’t in the plan to begin with. The joint lines from the sides underneath them were far from perfect. I used those to hid the poor craftsmanship.

I used a spray adhesive after taping off the all the surface area not to be flocked. Dumped it all on there and shook it around a bit and that was really all there was to it. Branded the bottom and gave it a simple Watco wipe down.

how did that flocking spray work? I like that idea. I have some velvet for such an application, but getting it in there flat would be a pain. Spraying it on is much easier I assume.

is that cherry?

Looks great!
