I’m considering this one finished unti I can figure out what I am going to do with it..ha. This is my first intarsia project, fun but I can see how practice is the key to this type of woodworking. This is the rating symbol for a Navy Aviation Ordnanceman.
Wings = ash
center pot = walnut
flames = bloodwood and mohogany
I’m thinking of making a sea chest and mount this to the top….or just frame it behind glass and display as is….just don’t know.
Enjoy.

Thanks but I’m still trying to learn this hobby as I go. Your work looks pretty nice as well.

Ken,
Looking like I’ll be out that way around the first of Dec, unless things change a few more times..ha.
Thanks, my scroll saw has collected more dust than it has created but it’s a lot of fun and would recommend acquiring one for any entry level person who is just starting to build their tool arsenal.
I showed a friend your submarine the other day, I may have to borrow your concept…he asked for a bomb-shaped coin holder…..that should be a nice challenge being that I haven’t used my lathe much in the past either. Too many tools for the time I have to use them…..what a great position to be in right..ha.
I will definietly let you know a few weeks out as I get dates firmed up on coming out.

Al, great job especially for your first attempt. I just finished my first Intarsia piece last week and have already started on my second one. It sure is a challenging art form but also a fun one. There are some guys on LJs doing some nice Intarsia work and I have learned a lot from them. I am looking forward to some more of your Intarsia projects.

To put it succinctly – a refined work of art.

Al, very nice job on your first try, It only takes a few projects to get hooked. I think your Navy Aviation Symbol would look great on top of a Sea Chest.

Beautiful woodworking. Love Virginia Beach, but was there for a very difficult occasion.
