Hi All
Heres something a bit different .
On our travels I collect bits & pieces , we live near a river, collected some river rocks for that one day project ! LoL ( I actually made time for that day ) and saved all arguments with wife as to why I collect such things !!!
anyway ! here is how I made it
River Rock Mirror
Dimensions 640mm X 420 mm
Materials Old Fence Pailings (Frame) Mirror River Rocks Cement Board Tile Adhesive Tile Grout ( Black)
Tools Glass Cutter ( $12 from Hardware store ) 6mm Notched Tile Trowel Rubber Tile Grouter
Frame Fence Pailings ripped down to 60 mm Wide.
Construction Method
Made the frame first (Mitred) and glued together, them Sanded /Stained /Laquered
Attached cement sheet to back of mitred frame (glued & nailed from back )
How I cut the Mirror
Tricks & Tips
Cutting Mirror or Glass
Always ensure Glass/Mirror is at least room temprature ( Avoids shatter)
Place mirror on a folded towel (this gives you a spring base),scribe glass /mirror , then press down.
Cut Mirror approx 20mm shorter than inside of frame size ( this allowed for grout gaps of mirror )
using a Water Based texta I sketched where I wanted river rocks to go in the flow pattern & then incorporated the scrolled cuts for the rest of the mirror,
Starting from the outsides of Mirror , I cut the shapes ,working my way into the middle of mirror.
I then did a dry layout to see how everything would fit, once happy with the design, I placed mirror pieces in exact order outs of mirror frame in order to place them in correct position once tile adhesive was applied to inner frame on cement board
Using a 6mm Notched Tile Trowel applied adhesive, then fixed mirror pieces on cement board , folled by River Rocks pressing them into the tile adhesive .
Let dry over night , then grouted mirror ! using I criss cross motion I grouted between mirror gaps ,
after approx 2 hours I cleaned excess grout off Mirror with a wet sponge (constantly rinse out sponge )
Cleaned Mirror with the window cleaner ! All Done !!!
Very happy with result
Have a gret day :)

Rustic frame goes well with the river rocks. This will be a nice addition to any cabin.
