My wife and I saw this idea a year ago as a “weekend” project that we thought looked easy and simple or “minimalist”. However, I thought this would be a great opportunity to practice joinery. So it took more than a weekend. There is one large maple slab that I thought looked great and then three other hybrid maple and liptus boards. I framed the primary boards with the alternate species and used biscuits, dominos, dowels, or routed the pieces to gain more surface area for gluing. Lacquered, and installed. It took me a little more than a weekend but I learned a lot and now we have some simple yet elegant shelves in our living room. Thanks for looking.
