He’s just retired AGAIN and is home all day with time on his hands so he found a way to keep them busy. :)
Round 1 – single bird houses.
Round 2 (about to begin) – feeders.
We were fortunate to have a sizeable stack of 16’ 2×4, 2×6, 2×8 and 2×10 western red cedar left over after building our log home and also fortunate to have a buyer for them. He works on these during the week while I’m in the finish shop and on weekends we work on two-person projects. Next up – a 36×36 walnut table and a custom nook shelving unit.

Also pictured – a white oak slab, 4” thick. Customer wants to eventually use as a table top. We added jatoba bow ties to stabilize the cracks then sanded glass smooth. In the process now of several coats of high gloss finish and will be glad to see this go out the door.

Nice retirement activities! Still being productive and skillful!

I like what you did with the Oak “Cookie.” Cleaver idea to use the bow ties. I look forward to seeing what you do from here.

Your hands are fuller than ever now that you are retired! Great projects, btw.

Ha! Since I became (involuntarily) retired, my wife has heard “birdhouses” so many times she throws things at me…. we have a ton or leftover materials, but not so nice as yours, mostly a lot of pressure treated pine 2x cutoffs from our deck and screened porch job. I’m here looking for ideas for “mass-producing” stuff to sell and supplement unemployment, to delay SS as long as possible. A little boutique in town had tiny birdhouses for indoor decor that looked like something I could do. I’m still working up to “apprentice” from “butcher” status, so it may be a while…

Isn’t retirement wonderful? I can now do as much wood carving as I want without feeling guilty. It’s more fun than work and I enjoy the heck out of it! I hope you do too!
