As a Cub Scout Leader I was the unofficial wood working instructor for our Pack in Livonia MI. The younger scouts made the pen & Pencil sets, bird houses and book ends while the older ones were able to make the Treasure Chests. I designed all the projects and some were made up as kits for the scouts to assemble and finish. when it came to drilling holes the scouts all got instruction in safety Glasses mandatory) using a drill press and for using the palm sanders and drill guns. I’m most proud of the Treasure chests. The one on the left is the Pine wood (prototype) with oak handles, one on the right is Red Oak with Walnut handles- 7 coats of wipe on poly. Inside lid is 1/4” Ply for sliding doors in double routed tracks with walnut handles as well. Storage in top of the chest I think is unique so we were able to maximize storage space. Buttons hide the screw heads and rounded top made using 11 1/2 degree router bit with dados cut to let each of the 8 pieces slip over top of the end piecs. I entered the Oak Chest along with a Walnut stand I made with a glass shelf and won second prize in the “Woodworking Shows” – “Show Off Contest” here in Detroit. I even got a write up in a blog from the editors of Wood Magazine for it. Made the scouts and ME very proud! Item in the front left is a rubber band “Catapult” which really has a great shot using puff cheese balls. It was all for the kids and I think I had the best time. Thanks for looking- remarks welcomed

Great job helping those Club Scouts. They’ll remember what you are doing with them for the rest of their lives (at least some will). Keep up the good work.
