Constructed of 1/2” pine with oak keys. Light coat of MinWax Golden Pecan and 6-8 coats of Wipe-On Poly Satin. Pretty satisfied with this as a first effort, no it’s time to begin another one, maple and walnut.

Hi Jim,

You should be satisfied with this one. It looks really good to me. The oak keys give it visual interest.

Thanks for the post.

Boxes are so basic, yet so cool. This is a great example of that. Way to go. -SST

That’s a great box, especially for your first one!

a great first effort…one that I am planning myself at this point…so I hope I shall be able to succeed as well as you have.

Fantastic job on the first box, they become addicting to build once the first one is done! Nice job on the hinges. Look forward to seeing more of ‘em…

I’m working with boxes myself. This is a great job you’ve done. I see that I need to put more coats of finish on mine to give it the look of elegance like yours. I am trying hard to get my hand cut dovetails to look right.
