My Daughter's Crib

I’m relatively new to woodworking, and this is my first crib project. I built it for my daughter (first baby) who was due yesterday but is being a little stubborn.

It is built out of hard maple and finished with multiple coats of a water soluble dark walnut analine dye, 2 shellac barrier coats, and 2 semi-gloss water soluble top coats. My wife likes dark Maple furniture. The grain is not so visable in the pictures but can be seen in person.

Overall, I’m pleased with the construction, but I think there is room for improvement with my finishing. It’s a very rewarding hobby.

Great piece of furniture, beautiful workmanship. Good crisp joints and lines. Looks real good.
Congratulations on your impending arrival, I’m sure she will love her now bed.

I did the same thing, it is such an amazing feeling every time you look in and see them sleeping in it. Good luck on the waiting, my daughter was on time to the day and it seems my son may be coming several weeks early but I’m still not patiently waiting.

Great crib! I really like your design. Our son and first child was born just a week ago and he was stubborn too—four days past the due date. Your daughter will be here any day and your life will be completely changed! Congrats to you.

Very nice crib. Did you come up with the design yourself?

Nice piece. I like the design. A dark crib seems unusual but I guess there’s no reason why cribs have to be light in color . . .

Nice project, it certainly doesn’t look like it was built by a beginner. Just a word of caution, babies turn into teenagers. Be prepared! lol

I was looking at your projects and just realized this post is 6 years old.
